Constitutional Amendments

The following are proposed amendments to the Friends of NMS Constitution.

1. A Motion to remove June from the following: AMENDMENTS section (d). Written notice of a proposed amendment to the Constitution, together with names of its sponsors (minimum of two required), was sent (email, blog or paper copy) to the membership not fewer than ten (10) days before the June Annual General Meeting.

2. A motion to amend Meetings section II. To replace the minimum of 4 General meetings per year, with the minimum of 3 General meetings and remove the word quarterly.

Executive’s discretion. The Executive may meet prior to each general meeting if
necessary.

3. A motion to amend Election and Terms of Office Bylaws. To replace December or January nominations with April or May nominations. To replace 'Voting, if necessary, shall be conducted after Christmas break' with "Voting, if necessary, shall be conducted in May". To replace "The elected officers Friends of NMS shall be involved in a January transition meeting" with "The elected officers Friends of NMS shall be involved in a May transition meeting"
Election and Terms of Office Bylaws
In December the Executive as Nominating Committee shall canvass the voting members to
identify candidates for the executive.
Nominations will be accepted by school administration until a stated day in December or
January. The Nominating Committee shall list those seeking office on the blog.
All parents (or legal guardians) have the right to nominate or stand for election as long as
they have a child currently attending the school.
Voting, if necessary, shall be conducted after Christmas break by ballot over two days with
the principal or his/her designate acting as Returning Officers.
The candidate(s) receiving the highest number(s) of votes shall be declared elected. The
number of votes received shall be recorded (but not publicly released) in the event of a
resolution to a no consensus to decide Chair issue is required.
The elected officers Friends of NMS shall be involved in a January transition meeting and shall be
installed in their offices at the beginning of the calendar year.
If any office of the Executive shall become vacant during the year, the remaining Executive may
appoint a volunteer member of Friends of NMS to serve until the following years’ election can be
held.
The absence of any Executive member without just cause from two consecutive meetings shall
constitute a vacancy.
